The Kendra’s institute of Music & Dance founded in 1952, has a long established reputation for excellence in the field of performing arts. It is a lively cultural centre reflecting a fusion of rich artistic traditions and contemporary insights. The College offers training in major classical dance styles and music of India, namely Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Chhau dances and Hindustani Classical Vocal and Instrumental Music. Eminent gurus of these disciplines supervise the teaching programmes to help the students excel in their subject of study. The campus is located in the heart of Delhi’s cultural hub, the Mandi House area. It nestles in the calm atmosphere of about two acres of space, surrounded by several prominent national centres of arts namely, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Lalit Kala Akademi and National School of Drama. With a large number of theatre halls, open-air performance venues, art galleries, studios, libraries and cafes the area around the college gives an excellent opportunity to its students to experience the best of culture and performing arts. The college offers a total of 10 years of study or training in a major discipline in five succeeding levels of Courses.
Vocational Programmes
1. FOUNDATION COURSE (TWO YEARS)
This two years course is meant for beginners who have no formal training in the discipline of their choice or in any allied disciplines. It is open for children above 8 years as well as adults to join.
2. CERTIFICATE COURSE (THREE YEARS)
This is the next level of our teaching, which a student joins after completion of the Foundation course. Direct entry to this Course is also allowed if an applicant has obtained Foundation level of training in the discipline elsewhere or is found to be competent enough for the entry to the course during the audition for admission.

3. DIPLOMA COURSE (TWO YEARS)
This third level of our courses is designed for more complex and higher level lessons in the main subject for preparing the students for a professional career in the art as a performer or a teacher.
4. POST-DIPLOMA COURSE (TWO YEARS)
The course is meant for higher training in the major subject together with supporting subsidiary subjects, allied to the main discipline.
5. SPECIALISATION COURSE (ONE YEAR)
In this final level of professional training, a student is required to specialize in a particular aspect of the main discipline that he / she has followed so far.

Faculty
The college has a faculty of about 35 members comprising senior gurus along with talented young teachers and accompanying musicians in its different departments and disciplines. Senior disciples of the gurus also provide assistance from time to time in imparting training to the youngsters. Lectures, demonstrations and workshops by visiting artists and teachers further enrich the training programmes of the college.

HINDUSTANI CLASSICAL VOCAL
MOHAMMED HAMEED KHAN is an accomplished North Indian Classical Vocalist, whose repertoire includes sufi, ghazals and folk singing. He completed the seven year postdiploma in Hindustani classical music at the Shriram Bhartiya Kala Kendra, New Delhi. He has been trained in the Kirana Gharana by his guru the late Smt. Shanti Sharma.
ARCHANA SINGH, a disciple of Late Shanti Sharma of Kirana Gharana, obtained her Sahitya Alankar degree from Hindi Vidyapeeth, Devghar, Bihar and Post Graduate Diploma in Music from Shriram Bhartiya Kala Kendra, New Delhi.
She completed her Sangeet Alankar from Akhil Bhartiya, Gandharva Mandal, Mumbai,
MANJEET SINGH was introduced to the field of Hindustani Classical Vocal Music by Prof. B.S. Bali (retired Principal of Music & Fine Arts College, Jammu). He received guidance from Late Smt. Shanti Sharma, a renowned vocalist who had been a guru at the Kendra.
DEEPAK KALRA, is a vocalist of Hindustani Music. He also specializes in different forms of devotional music of India. He has presented solo performances at various places and has recorded songs in regional languages. He has sung for Doordarshan’s serial “Saints of India” and Audio CDs ‘Gurbani’ and ‘Hu – The Zikr’ released by Mystica Music.
HINDUSTANI INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
BISWAJIT ROY CHOWDHURY – One of today’s brilliant and serious exponents of Hindustani Classical Music, Biswajit Roy Chowdhury stands out not only for his singular commitment to music, but also for his conscious combination of all that is the best in the Indian musical tradition. Initially groomed in music by his father, he learnt Sarod from Pandit Indranil Bhattacharya in Kolkata and subsequently from Ustad Amjad Ali Khan in Delhi. He thus received training in both the major schools of Sarod-playing – Maihar and Gwalior.
PRASHANT TRIVEDI has been a part of the music industry for last 20 years. He is one of the rarest musicians who can play almost all the percussion instruments.
At the age of 8,he started learning Pakhawaj under the guidance of Pt.Ramkishore Das.He was trained in tabla under Sh.Mange Ram and Ustad Faiyaz Khan Sahib.Presently he is under the noble guidance of reknowned tabla guru Taal Yogi Pt.Suresh Talwalkar,of pune.
He has been training students for a decade now and believes in constant learning as well as giving back the best to the society. Along with being a percussionist, he also has wide contribution as a Music Arranger for more than thousand famous songs in various albums. He has travelled the world and shared the stage with legends from both Indian classical as well as popular music.
As a youth icon and inspiration he has contributed to many albums and hindi film projects.He is an intergral part of India’s premier rock band EUPHORIA for past 16 years.He is a perfect example of youth Icon, who blends various genres of music with ease and mesmerizes his audience with his versatile talent.

Dance
KATHAK
DHEERENDRA TIWARI, a disciple of renowned guru of Jaipur Gharana, Pandit Rajendra Gangani, has been trained at the Kathak Kendra, National Institute of Kathak Dance, New Delhi.
Earlier, he was initiated into dance by Ruchi Sharma and Taposh Giri in Agra. He has been a recipient of scholarships from Delhi Sahitya Kala Parishad and from Kathak Kendra where he completed Diploma Honours, and studied upto postdiploma level. He has also learnt Hindustani vocal music and Yoga.
ANUKRITI VISHWAKARMA,belongs to that new generation of Indian classical Kathak dancers who embrace modernity along with tradition, to enrich the art journey. She completed her formal training in the style of Lucknow gharana at Kathak Kendra, New Delhi,
Earlier, under the guidance of reputed Guru Pt. Jai Kishan Maharaj. She was awarded the senior scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and is a Graded artist of Doordarshan.
NISHTHA BUDHLAKOTI is a versatile young danseuse of Jaipur gharana . Her kathak journey started under the guidance of guru Mulla Afsar Khan. She gave her first performance at the age of 6.Later, she was groomed by Guru Prerana Shrimali in Kathak Kendra Delhi.
She was awarded the senior scholarship by the ministry of culture, Govt. of India.Known for her command over technique and expression, she adds her personal style to each of her presentations. She has showcased her talent on various platforms in different parts of the country.
She is not only a Kathak dancer but also a trained Yoga instructor and a captivating orator. Currently she is shaping new talent in Sriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, New Delhi, as Kathak Guru.
ODISSI
PRIYAMBADA PATTNAIK, a talented Odissi dancer, was born in a traditional art family of Orissa. The grand-daughter of the great Odissi maestro, late Pt. Chandrashekhar Pattnaik, she received her initial training from her father, late Indra Kumar Pattnaik and later with late Guru Mahadeo Raut for 10 years.
BHARATNATYAM
JUSTIN McCARTHY (Visiting Faculty) is a dancer, musician and choreographer. He has taught Bharatanatyam at the Kendra since 1990 and has choreographed many works for the Bharatanatyam dancers of the Kendra. Apart from creating innovative performance experiences, he also engages with dance through writing, speaking and film-making.
SUDHA JAGANNATH commenced her training in Bharatanatyam in childhood under Smt. Swarna Saraswati and later under Guru Govindarajan. She continued her training at the Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, primarily under Shri Justin McCarthy for over a decade. Sudha Jagannath has taught at the Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra for over a decade too.
SUHAIL BHAN, a Doordarshan Graded artist studied Bharatnatyam at Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra under the guidance of Gurus Justin McCarthy and Sudha Jagannathan. He proved himself to be a natural dancer from the very beginning. He combines grace and strength in a distinctive way that is both lyrical and dynamic.
CHHAU & DANCE DRAMA
SHASHIDHARAN NAIR
(Visiting Faculty)
An Exceptionally Gifted Dancer & Choreographer, Shashidharan Nair, born in 1954 has devoted 5 decades to his love and pursuit of dance. His artistic journey began at the age of 9, learning Kathakali under Kalamandalam K. Padmanabhan Nair. He was chosen by the Rajah of Kollengode to be trained in Kathakali under the legendary Guru & SNA Awardee Kavungal Sankaran Kutty Paniker at the Royal Palace of Kollengode for a decade.
Shashidharan mastered several dance forms under luminaries of the Indian dancing world: Mayurbhanj Chhau under the great Guru & SNA Awardee Krishna Chandra Naik, Creative genre of Indian dance pioneered by Uday Shankar under veteran Choreographer & SNA Awardees Prabhat Ganguly & Gul Bardhan at Little Ballet Troupe where he spent 10 years, Traditional Dance Forms of India under distinguished Choreographer & SNA Awardee Yog Sunder Desai, Odissi under Smt. Aloka Panikar, Bharatnatyam under Shanta Warrier, Kuchipudi under Smt. Swapnasundari, Kalaripayattu from Shri Narayanan Embranthiri with a fellowship awarded by the Ministry of HRD, Modern Dance, Improvisation and Choreography with eminent American Choreographers. Shashidharan explored the martial forms of Kerala with the Senior Fellowship awarded by the Ministry of Culture in 2008.
Shashidharan has been pursuing dance professionally for the last 40 years and has been associated with Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra for over 3 decades. Shashidharan’s choreographies include Sangharsh in 1989 for Sahitya Kala Parishad’s Yuva Mahotsav, 8 highly popular and critically acclaimed dance productions for Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, where he has been the premier choreographer for the last 2 decades- Tripurantak, Chakravyuha, Parikrama, Meera, Krishna Katha, Ram, Dance of Shiva, Shree Durga.
Shashidharan has directed Sampurna Ramayana, a mega production with a cast of 70 on a stage of 140 feet held during Dushera for the last Four years. Shashidharan created Parasurama in 2017, playing the lead role which received wide acclaim with an overflowing auditorium.
Shashidharan featured with some of the leading choreographers of India in Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Uday Shankar Shatabdi Samaroh-A Festival of Choreographic Work held in 2001 in Delhi. He also featured in SNA’s Nritya Sanrachana Festival of Choreographic Works held in Guwahati in March 2007 & Festival of Choreographic Works held in Bangalore in 1996.
Shashidharan’s work has travelled to many countries under the sponsorship of ICCR- Indonesia & Bangkok in 2013, Festival of India in Russia in 2009, Singapore-Malaysia- Vietnam-Thailand-Indonesia in 1999, Trinidad & Tobago- Canada-USA-UK in 1996, Nepal in 1995, and Japan- Korea-Thailand in 1990.
Shashidharan is a leading name among his contemporaries at the forefront of the world of choreography.
Admission
Admission Procedure, Rules and Regulations
1. The Academic Year of the College commences on the first working day of the month of July every year. The process of admission will start threemonths prior to the date.
2. Application for admission has to be made by filling up the Application Form attached with the college Prospectus (Price INR 300). The Application Form can also be downloaded from the website. The duly completed application form together with a copy of the required documents such as proof of age and residence, certificates of past education and training etc., should be sent by post or by hand addressed to the Director, Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, 1, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi – 110 001. These can also be sent by email at sbkk@thekendra.com. The last date for submission of the application for admission will be notified every year.
3. Minimum age for admission to the Foundation Course in the college is 8 years.
4. Selection for admission to the college is made on the basis of an audition and personal interview held at the college campus. Applicants are required to present themselves before the selection committee comprising of the faculty members of the concerned department.
5. The list of selected applicants will be put up on the notice board and website of the college. They are required to pay the Admission Fee, Annual Charges and applicable Tuition Fee before the start of the session.
6. Selection of International Students is made on the basis of videos and CDs submitted by them. Interview over Skype or telephone may also be held.International students seeking direct admission will follow detailed guidelines and rules to be announced later.
7. A separate application for hostel accommodation is required to be filled up in the Hostel Application Form prescribed for the purpose. Ordinarily, only students residing outside Delhi shall be considered for hostel accommodation. Residents will be subject to the Hostel Rules.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE AND RULES
-
- All fees are payable in advance only by cash or Demand Draft in favour of “Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra” in the Accounts Office of the Kendra. Payment can also be made through NEFT direct into the bank account of the institution. Details in this regard may be obtained from our Accounts Office.
- In case of new admissions, fees and deposits including Admission Fee, Annual Charges, Security Deposit and Tuition Fee for the first three months will be payable at the time of admission . To secure their seats in the respective courses, candidates are advised to pay the due amount soon after the list of selected applicants is announced and before the last day of payment as notified from year to year .
- Old students who are continuing their training mid-course are required to pay their dues including Annual Charges and Tuition Fee for the first three months latest by the 31st of July.
- All students shall pay Tuition Fee quarterly for the remaining three quarters of the academic year before the 15th of the first month of the quarter, i.e. by 15 October, 15 January, and 15 April. A late fine of Rupees 100 will be charged if payment is delayed up to the end of the month. Thereafter, the fine for delayed payment will be Rupees 500 up to the end of the next month. Thereafter, the student’s name will be struck off the rolls and his/her security deposit will be forfeited. If such a student wishes to continue he/she will have to seek readmission with a fine of Rupees 1000.
- Fees and dues will be accepted in the Accounts office of the institute between 10.30 am to 1.00 pm and 2 pm to 5.00 pm on working days only.
- If a student joins a second subject, the tuition fee of the second subject will be charge
- If a new student is admitted in the middle of the term, fees will be charged on pro rata basis.
- In case of loss of or damage to a student’s I-Card , a fee of Rs 200 will be charged for issuing a duplicate card.
- Fees once paid are not refundable.
- If a student leaves before completion of the course without sufficient reason, ]the security deposit will not be refunded.
- All refundable dues will be held by the Kendra for a period of one year.
International Students
International students are welcome to the College of ShriramBharatiya Kala Kendra for learning Indian Classical Music and Dance. In fact, several foreign nationals have received training here since 1950s and have continued their passionate engagement with Indian music and dance wherever they chose to settle down. Normally, and mostly, the international students joining the college are sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), an organization of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The scholarships awarded by the ICCR are given in pursuance of the cultural exchange agreements signed by the Government of India with the governments of other countries or in accordance with other relevant schemes and programmes of the ICCR. Those interested may contact ICCR and / or the Indian Embassy in their respective countries. The college may directly admit international students in limited number subject to the applicant being found suitable for the course and upon fulfillment of all rules of the Government of India in this regard, including obtaining a valid student visa

Residence
1. The campus on Copernicus Road, New Delhi has a limited hostel facility in shared rooms separately for male and female students. The rooms are equipped with basic amenities, furniture etc. The residence block of four floors includes guest rooms for visiting artists and accommodation for the hostel warden and female staff. Mess facility includes Indian meals, breakfast and tea.
2. Subject to availability, accommodation in the residence can be availed by Indian as well as foreign students.
3. Private rented accommodation is also available in residential colonies within 10 Kms. from the college, to be hired directly by those interested.
